Crosswind – where the winds encounter  

Estonian movie epics from 2014

The movie portrays a forced deportation of an Estonian family in the harsh period during World War 2 in Sibiria. Crosswind is based upon actual and tough occurence but told in an aesthetic and style perfected film linguistic, which shows the savage story in a gently, conciliatory and unique matter.

Produced in Estonia, 2014. Instruction by Martti Helde. Music by Pärt Uusberg. Duration for 87 minutes.

Opening concert by the soloists of Klassiske Dage

This year’s festival sheds light upon our common Nordic and Baltic link with six new commissioned works for instance this evening’s premiere of the music by Carl Nielsen retold by the jazz drummer Anders Mogensen and the Finnish Sebastian Fagerlund’s Full II as well as works by Vasks, Pärt and Kõrvits.

The King’s ship

Concert for the entire family

– a musical voyage with Sigurd Barrett.

This year’s project for children at Klassiske Dage in Holstebro will result in a musical voyage in the Nordic countries, from Denmark to Sweden and Norway, visiting Iceland and Finland among the way over the Baltic. The common Nordic and Baltic will be celebrated with a bunch of songs, dances and musical pieces in a musical context by our beloved storyteller, Sigurd Barrett. The youth orchestra MiVU, soloists at Klassiske Dage, The Royal Theater’s Ballet School, young talents and pupils at the schools in Holstebro will all take part in this concert. Go aboard the King’s ship when Sigurd invites the whole family, big and small, on a journey at the sea.

Performers: Sigurd Barrett, The Royal Ballet School Holstebro, the youth orchestra MiVU, soloists at Klassiske Dage, young talented and more than 500 pupils from Holstebro and the region.

Symphonic celebration concert

Katrine Gislinge is one of the best and most beloved pianists in Denmark and will be performing the well-known piano concerto no. 21 – also known as Elvira Madigan – by Mozart. As an interesting prelude a piece by Kraus, known as “the Swedish Mozart”, will be performed. The Orchestra MidtVest and REMUS will also bring the audience on a voyage upon the Baltic Sea by performing works by composers originating from the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea.

From the Baltic Sea to the North Sea

Voces Intimae by Sibelius and a historic lecture by the ocean

Tag along a different journey across the ocean when Strandingsmuseum St. George invites to a atmospheric chamber concert with Ensemble MidtVest, who will perform Jean Sibelius’ moving string quartet Voces Intimae as a prelude to the lecture “From the Baltic Sea to the North Sea – regarding maritime, marines and cultural meetings by the coast” by dr. jur. et phil. Ditlev Tamm, Professor at the University of Copenhagen.

The arrangement will begin with morning coffee in the museum’s café. Free entrance into the museum after the lecture.

Carl and Maren

A jazz tribute to Maren inspirered by Carl Nielsen

At the landmark of Holstebro, Maren, in the middle of the most beautiful pedestrian street in Denmark will it be possible to experience the Black Box Dance Company interpreting four miniature concerts which will involve classical, folk, jazz and electronica music. The performance will be directed by the drummer and composer Anders Mogensen in cooperation with the teachers at MGK MidtVest and the dance will be choreographed by Marie Brolin-Tani.

From the East to the West in the Baltic Sea

Symphonic concert

Close to the most Western part of the Baltic Sea lays the port city of Hamburg, which is the city of birth of the greatest german Romantic, Johannes Brahms. In Köningsberg – at that time belonging to Preußen – by the most Easten part of the Baltic Sea was the composer Otto Nicolai raised. These to significant composers will be interpreted by the the hard-working youth symphony orchestra from Wezlar, conducted by Hamed Garschi in the ouverture to Nicolai’s opera The merry wives in Windsor as well as Brahms’ 2. symphony.

Northern Lights – Klassiske Dage

Hans Ulrik/Anders Mogensen jazz quartet

To of Denmark’s most prominent jazz musicians have assemble a quartet, which united the musical universe of Carl Nielsen and the Nordic tone of jazz, also with a touch of modern American jazz. It will be an atmospheric concert, where new interpretations of the Danish national treasure of songs together with the Ben Webster award winner Heine Hansen playing the piano.

At this concert two completely different Nordic masterpieces will be performed – Grieg’s Holberg Suite is among the most performed works for string orchestra. Grieg masterly combines the clarity of the Baroque with the elegance of the Romantic’s sweetness and depth – whereas the clarinet concerto by Carl Nielsen powerfully breaks the waves with an energy, temperament and timbre, which is very demanding for both the soloist as well as the orchestra.

Jazz Concert with Anders Mogensen and the musical stars of tomorrow at the Danish music stage in Ulfborg. The concert will be directed by the internationally famous drummer, docent at Danish National Academy of Music, Anders Mogensen. The concert offers music from Carl Nielsen as well as folk music and new pieces by Mogensen.
