Holstebro Music School Holstebro

Holstebro Music School was established in 1967 – at the same time as several other of the city’s renowned cultural institutions. It vested during the 70s a reputation as one ofthe country’s foremost music schools with a very high of activity and ambition. Thus Denmark’s first Basic Musical Education course was created in 1976 – a regional music school superstructure that prepares young musicians between 14 and 25 years to audition for the Music Academies.

Many prominent figures of today’s Danish and international music scene have Holstebro Music School as a stepping stone for their careers, thus also Janne Thomsen, founder of this festival.

In the early 80’s music school moved out of Bisgårdmark where the well-appointed rooms were the first in Northern Europe designed solely for music school teaching. In 2012, Færchfonden and Holstebro Municipality funded an additional concert hall and Holstebro was appointed Danish Music School of the Year.

The music school has around 2000 students of all ages divided into instrumental teaching, ensemble and pre-school.
